• Development of Dysplasia/Carcinoma is a rare
event.
• Likely risk not greater than in ileal mucosa
after
proctocolectomy
( > 17 reported cases of Ileostomy
Adenocarcinoma).
• Selected patients may be at more risk.
• Some form of organized follow-up should be
instituted
for the pouch
and the residual mucosa and ATZ.
• Mucosectomy does not absolutely protect.
