Ticagrelor vs. Clopidogrel in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndromes Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

The CURE, PCI-CURE, CLARITY-TIMI 28 studies showed that clopidogrel reduced cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction and stroke by approximately 20-40%, depending on the risk level and timing of PCI. In addition, clopidogrel and aspirin are mandatory after PCI and especially after coronary stenting. On the negative side, patients receiving aspirin and clopidogrel have an increased risk of bleeding, but this is usually not a major problem except in patients who need early surgery, in particular coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
