Potential Benefit of Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Lowering on Death
(per 10,000 Patient-Years)
This graph shows the correlation of CHD death rates to varying levels of blood pressure and cholesterol. For any given BP, an increase in cholesterol level increases the risk of CHD mortality. Likewise, for any given cholesterol level, increases in BP increase risks for CHD mortality. Even mild to moderate levels of concomitant hypertension and dyslipidaemia impart a substantial CV risk.
As shown on the slide, one of the largest risk reductions (to at death rate of 3) can be achieved with concomitant lowering of SBP (to <118 mm Hg) and cholesterol
(to <182 mg/dL).
