FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — January 29, 2002 — A small study suggests that patients on aspirin prophylaxis for myocardial infarction may be able to stay on the medication until the day of cardiac surgery with no increased risk of post-operative bleeding.
Currently practice is to recommend discontinuation of the aspirin prophylaxis a week to 10 days prior to surgery to prevent postoperative bleeding incidents.
