Age At Menopause Correlates To Cardiovascular Disease Mortality

Age at menopause is related to cardiovascular disease mortality.

This was the main finding of a population-based cohort study that included 9,450 postmenopausal women from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The study was conducted by Dr Miriam de Kleijn from the Julius Center for General Practice and Patient Oriented Research, University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands, and colleagues.

The women were aged 35-65 years at the study start in 1975 and were followed up for a median of 20.5 years. The main aim of the study was to see whether combined information on reproductive factors has additive value to the single reproductive factor age at menopause for assessing endogenous estrogen exposure and cardiovascular mortality risk in postmenopausal women….
