NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 21 – Home visits by a nurse led to doubling of appropriate medication use in asthmatic inner-city children, according to pilot studies conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore.
Dr. Susan J. Bartlett and colleagues observe that "inner-city children with asthma have high rates of morbidity and are frequent users of emergency department services." To determine whether educational intervention might be helpful in improving asthma management, the researchers studied 15 such children aged 7 to 12 years. All were black and had been prescribed at least one inhaled steroid to be used daily.
