NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 29 – In preterm babies at risk for chronic lung disease, the dexamethasone course used, pulsed or reducing, does not influence long-term respiratory, growth, cardiovascular, or developmental outcomes, according to recent report.
Dr. J. E. Harding and colleagues, from National Women's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, assessed the outcomes of 76 preterm babies who were randomized to receive a pulsed or reducing course of dexamethasone. All of the babies weighed 1250 g or less and were ventilated at 15 cycles or more per minute at 7 days of age.
