Aerobic Exercise Beneficial for All Groups

NEW YORK (MedscapeWire) Apr 03 — Overwhelming evidence from a new review shows that exercise can reduce blood pressure in virtually anyone, regardless of weight, race, or current blood pressure level.
Seamus P. Whelton and colleagues from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, examined 54 studies that measured the effects of exercise on blood pressure in more than 2400 adults. They found that regular aerobic exercise decreased systolic blood pressure by an average of 3.8 mm Hg and diastolic by 2.58 mm Hg in people who were previously inactive.

The report appears in the April 2 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.
