'Back to Sleep' Campaign Reduced SIDS Deaths Without Rise in Aspiration

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 01 – Since the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended placement of infants in the supine position to sleep almost 9 years ago, the rate of deaths due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) has declined.
Between 1991 and 1996, SIDS mortality dropped by more than one third, with no significant concomitant rise in deaths from aspiration, researchers report in the April issue of Pediatrics.
