Breast Cancer Survival Linked With Age, Tumor and Clinical Factors

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 22 – The histologic tumor grade, patient age at diagnosis of the primary tumor, and disease-free interval until recurrence are independently associated with the risk of death following a local recurrence of breast cancer, according to a recent report.

For women who have experienced a local recurrence, the menopausal status is a strong predictor of response to systemic therapies, lead author Dr. Monique G. Le, from the Institut Gustave-Roussy in Villejuif, France, and colleagues note. Systemic therapies, such as ovarian

suppression and chemotherapy, improve the survival of premenopausal women only.
