Noninvasive measurements of pulse amplitude ratio correlate well with measurements of pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), according to results of a study reported in the July issue of Chest.
"The pulse pressure response to the Valsalva maneuver is an easily applicable and inexpensive clinical tool for the detection of elevated filling pressure in patients with suspected or known congestive heart failure (CHF)," write Daniel Weilenmann, MD, and colleagues from University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland.
