Hyperemic stenosis resistance index is a more powerful predictor of functional coronary lesion severity than are standard methods.
Researchers say that using intracoronary pressure and flow velocity to measure stenosis resistance predicted defects more accurately than coronary blood flow velocity reserve (CFVR) or myocardial fraction flow reserve (FFR).
CFVR and FFR are commonly used to evaluate the haemodynamic severity of coronary lesions but previous studies have shown discordant results between CFVR and FFR in between 25 and 30 percent of intermedicate coronary lesions.
