Dysthymia Linked to Low Testosterone Levels in Older Men

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 29 – Older men with dysthymic disorder have lower levels of testosterone compared with men with major depressive disorder and men who do not have symptoms of depression, according to a report in the March issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Dr. Stuart N. Seidman from the New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York, and colleagues measured testosterone levels 220 men, mean 70.8 years of age. In this cohort there were 13 men with major depressive disorder, 32 men with dysthymic disorder and 175 men with no symptoms of depression.
