Transvaginal Imaging Useful After Early Spontaneous Abortions

Transvaginal sonography is a useful aid for clinical assessment of women with a spontaneous first-trimester abortion, reports a study from Hong Kong.

Moreover, use of this modality should reduce unnecessary general anaesthesia and uterine curettage in these women, suggest Dr Shell Fean Wong and colleagues from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Princess Margaret Hospital, Kowloon.

If this approach is used to assess the uterine cavity, cervical status can be ignored, these authors also note.
