Impact Of BMS-284756 On Intestinal Microflora Similar To Other Quinolones

05/31/2002 By James Adams

Ecological impact of the novel des-F(6)-quinolone BMS-284756 (T-3811ME) on intestinal microflora is selective and similar to results with other quinolones.

Previous studies have shown that BMS-284756 is effective against a broad spectrum of aerobic and anaerobic pathogens.

Investigators from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton, New Jersey, United States, studied the effects of BMS-284756 on the intestinal microflora in 40 healthy subjects.

Five dose panels of 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,200 milligrams BMS-284756 with eight subjects each were created.

Six subjects from each panel received oral BMS-284756 daily for 14 days while two subjects received placebo.

Fecal samples were collected before, during and after the administration period. No significant changes in intestinal microflora occurred in subjects receiving 100 or 200

milligrams BMS-284756.
