Immuno-Active E. Coli Fractions Prevent Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

Uro-Vaxom Escherichia coli (E. coli) extract is effective in preventing the development of urinary tract infections (UTIs), say German researchers.

This positive effect of oral immunotherapy with Uro-Vaxom® was confirmed in their meta-analysis of five double-blind studies comparing the drug with placebo in a total of 601 women patients with UTI. In these studies special reference was made throughout a six month observation period to the prevention of recurrences following treatment in the first three months.

All five were similar in design and carried out over the last decade, according to Hartwig Wilhelm Bauer and investigators at idv-Datenanalyse und Versuchsplanung, München, Healthcare & Pharma Consulting SA, Geneva, Germany and Sanofi Winthrop GmbH, München, Germany.
