Heart and lung transplant recipients under one year of age appear to be at significantly less risk of rejection than older recipients.
Review of 100 consecutive lung transplant and 107 consecutive heart transplant recipients showed infant recipients were more likely to be rejection free than older recipients. Multivariate analysis also showed age at time of transplant to be the most significant factor in time to first rejection, say researchers at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, United States.
