In children with AIDS and severe immunodeficiency, the immune system can still recover if there is a response to long-term highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), immunologists in Spain report.
Dr. M. ngeles Muoz-Fernndez and colleagues at the General University Hospital Gregorio Maran in Madrid suggest that restoration of T cells in responders “seems to be the consequence of nave cell reconstitution largely from thymic origin and decreased chronic activation of the immune system.”
