Chlamydia screening of all women seeking termination of pregnancy at British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) branches is feasible and could bring significant benefits to patients, their partners, and the wider population, according to a report in the December 2002 issue of Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common curable sexually transmitted infection in the UK, the authors explain, and evidence from Norway and the United States suggests that a nationwide termination of pregnancy clinic provides a suitable population for monitoring and treatment.
